Annoying 'Flashers'

Is it just me but is there another increasingly annoying driving trait that did not seem to be so generally done before (Happened again to me twice today) I don't think it was such a regular thing in the past.
After dark when you give way to another approaching vehicle at a narrowing place the approaching driver flashes full beam and often ultra powerful modern headlights as if to say thanks, some times not once but several times.
I don't mind not being thanked in this blinding way -talk about temporary spots before the eyes ! .

A pet hate of mine as well. I flash the dip beam off using the switch on the stalk on my daily driver to say thanks but not always easy on cars with a light switch on the dash.

Annoys me too - there's a road where I live where it's often difficult to make progress past parked cars before diving into gaps to let an oncoming car(s) pass. When there's a whole string of them coming in the opposite direction you can imagine what the flashing is like when they all wish to show their appreciation. The way some people flash you'd think you'd just saved their life, bought them the best Christmas present ever or won them the lottery. Politeness is great but I wonder if I should just shout "get a life"

I just turn the dip beam off and on again, I think it is very rude to blind someone as a thank you especially as today's headlights are so bright but that is today for you

It seems to me that so many drivers drive with headlights on permanent flash, it used to be an mot fail to have lights adjusted too high.

I think Les it's more likely that most drivers today don't know that the rotary dial next to the headlight switch is for adjusting the headlamps when you are towing or have a load in the car.
Coupled with the fact that they don't know what the blue light is when they turn the headlamps on.

I'm sure you're right but often it's only one side that zaps you.

Another good reason for giving up driving in the dark. My excuse was cataracts.

Some people can't see in the daytime without lights, what a soft lot we've become!

I switch to sidelights then back on to dip again. I think most new car lights are too bright on dipped let alone main. It feels like I'm driving with candles going back to the 7 inch lights but soon get used to it.

I had someone do the 'negative flashing' (flick switch to side lights then back to dip) the other day when we squeezed past on a narrow lane. 1st time I'd encountered it - what a good idea. It's what I'll do in future

I nearly caused an accident a couple of weeks ago by pulling out from a car park into the path of a car which I thought had flashed me out. He hadn't, he'd gone over a small bump. I suspect the modern headlights are more directional as they seem to create the flashing effect quite easily.
