Non-working odometer on 1961 Minor 1000

Post by alandorman »

Hi
I've got an original speedometer for my 1961 Minor convertible. It all works except for the odometer. It needs a replacement plastic cog but nobody seems to know how to Gwynn one, not even Bull Motiv. Can anyone help please?

I have repaired the odo in Moggy speedos. It is a fiddly and tricky job.

Are you sure you need a new cog? I have sometimes found that the pawl that moves the drive cog is seized and cleaning and light lubrication of the pawl mechanism is all that is needed.

If the cog needs replacing and you want to keep your original speedo, you will probably have to take one from a parts speedo.

Do you have the online free service manual for the Smiths speedo?

Id suggest the plastic drive cog has lost teeth seems to be a fairly common complaint the one on my S11 had done that so made a brass one.
