Correct Speedometer

Post by vee12jag »

Hi guys, I'm in the final (maybe) stages of restoring my 56 Series 2. I'm not sure if my speedo is correct as I know it's been replaced in the past.
The speedo that's in there now is a S/N 4451. The parts book says I need part number AJA5063 but does not cross reference to S/N. I've talked to ESM but they can't help.
Can anyone tell me what the correct S/N should be please?
The car is a 56 series 2 running the original 803. Chassis number 411205.
Thanks in advance.

SN 4451/15 should have a TPM 1504 which is correct for a 948 Minor with a 4.55 diff
Provided that the car still has the original 803 gearbox and diff, the correct speedo should be 511440109 with a TPM 1000. The correct TPM is the important part

Hi Mike, thanks for your input. The car does have the original 803 and gearbox/diff.
Excuse my ignorance but what is a TPM? How would I know what I have?
I take it that 511440109 is the serial number of the correct one for mine then?
Thanks again

TPM = Turns per Mile which is the gearing of the speedo. It should be printed on the dial after the SN. The correct speedo is dependent on the diff ratio. On the SII it also depends on the gear box as the SII has a different gear/pinion ratio to the 948/1098 boxes
