MM first gear whine
Do all Minors whine in bottom gear? A potential buyer told me it was an indication of wear in the gearbox; a friend tells me that it may be because they have straight cut gears. Opinions, please?

Re: MM first gear whine
Both mine do it. The A30 is worse. Don't spend much time in first so stopped bothering about it years ago. Oh, and the Minors both have recon Ford boxes now so I wonder if the whine is from elsewhere in the transmission.

Re: MM first gear whine
!st gear on my 1275 box on my Traveller sounds like a bag of spanners, there are limits to how noisy they should be. The Series MM box is far better

Re: MM first gear whine
Certainly the A series gearboxes all have straight cut first (and reverse) gear - the other 3 are helical. Through time the matching teeth on the laygear get chipped/broken and the noise increases horribly. Not sure about MM gearboxes......
