Brake Pull Off Spring

Hello
Im replacing all the pull off springs as the current ones are past the best. Just need the correct holes to use to be confirmed, as the rear springs were fitted incorrectly and the front ones looked forced.

There are varied opinions on this subject. With new,unstretched springs,
you should be ok using the 'nearest ' holes. If springs are a bit tired
use one 'far' hole. you must also check that the springs are not
binding on the side of the wheel cylinders....using a 'far'hole will
move the spring away if this condition occurs. The springs with
two coils on them,one long and one short should be fitted with the
small coil at the adjuster end to avoid binding.

Yes, the 'near' hole is both nearer to the other shoes hole and nearer
to the wheel cylinder. The 'far' hole would entail stretching each
spring more AND would move the spring away from the cylinder.
If you are having trouble with the shoes not freeing from the
drums after operation then you should check that the wheel
cylinder pistons are free to move in their bores by hand. I had this
trouble caused by the 'special brake grease' which I had applied to
the wheel cylinder bores going hard and practically seizing them up.
