Dull paint finish

Post by mad-4-moggywhite-1 »

Hello there

I am thinking of purchasing a black Morris Minor but the paint finish on the bonnet and on the roof is very dull compared to the rest of the car. The owner has said that it polishes up but this doesn't last and it just gets dull again. Would it benefit from a partial re-spray? or would a decent t-cut do the job we do have a dedicated electric buffing machine that we purchased from Halfords but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good product to use.

Many thanks.

Get some farecla G3 paste, that will polish up the paint and protect it with a good Carnauba wax.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

All too easy to cut right through to the undercoats with 'paste' - but have a go. It probably does need a re-spray to put it right anyway. So nothing to lose really!

My almond green car has original paint on the roof and bonnet and it also dulls a lot quicker than the rest of the paintwork that was resprayed sometime in the 70s. It used to come up great with some brasso and then a good waxing, but the paint is now getting so thin that the primer is starting to show in a couple of places. The last polish Ive tried was Meguiars cleaning wax and it seems to have given a good shine, but only time will tell! Eventually it will need to be painted.

Too many Minors so little time.....

Not true if you do it by hand with a cloth and only apply enough to cut through the oxidation.
Cutting through is only a problem if you use a polishing machine.

I've used G3 to bring back the shine on my traveller each spring for over ten years now and have not gone through.

It is important to wax with a good Carnauba wax every few months after polishing with a compound.

Hello all

Excellent. Thank you so much. I will try your suggestions first. If ultimately she needs a re-spray then so be it, but definitely worth a try with the products you suggest first. Thanks again.

Maddie.

The O-P had already indicated they had a polishing mop...which is/was presumably to be used......
