Convertible Hood Bracket Position

Post by dollie007 »

Please could someone give me the position of the hood frame fixing bracket in relation to the B-pillar? I've searched the forum and it gives this measurement as 17.5" but the reference is for conversion cars, is it the same measurement for a genuine convertible (which mine is), I've just filled in the holes during repair..
Many thanks

Mine, which is a genuine convertible, measures 17 1/4" from the centre of the bracket to the rear of the B-post.

Thanks a lot, so out of interest are the conversions a different measurement than original convertibles?

Is there anyone else with a genuine convertible that could measure their bracket position? Just so I have a definitive answer and don't drill the in the wrong place!
Many thanks in advance.

Sorry to drag this thread back up but could anyone check their convertible and clarify whether the dimension is 17 1/4" or 171/2" to the hood bracket? I have found reference to both on the forum, and I'm not sure if the conversions have a different dimension to original ones? I have a nicely painted shell now and don't want to drill it in the wrong place!!!
many thanks.

On mine (Lowlight) the brackets are held on with captive nuts and screws so you can't get it wrong as there will be nothing for the screws to go into. The later cars are different in several respects so mine won't be much use for dimensions on a post 1952 car. Can you not get your fingers up under the inside of the waist rail to feel where the holes are?

I can feel under there, but it seems there are more than 3 holes on one of the sides so I don't know if someone has adjusted the bracket at some point, the other side got a piece repaired in so no holes at all.
thanks

TBH, I'd split the difference and just drill the holes. If you have to fit a new hood then you'll be starting from scratch anyway.

I bought a new hood frame from XYZ and the dimensions were different from the original old frame by more than you are looking at. The lengths and angles of all the pivots in the frame make it all a bit academic, too.

If it helps, I get 45.2cm (17 and 13/16ths) on mine for the same measurement. :-?
