Reducing Emissions
I have been concerned for some time at reducing exhaust emissions from the A series and following on from the pioneering work of Professor Karl von Trixt of Wolfsburg University have now developed a system for drastic reductions in emissions from the Morris Minor. The modifications are relatively simple and can be completed in about 2 hours:
1. Cut out 305mm of exhaust pipe aft of the silencer.
2. Fit a 90 degree curved tail pipe so that the exhaust gases exit just in front of the rear wheel (similar to a van).
3. It is important that the original, disconnected tail pipe remains in position.
4. The MOT tester can now carry out the visual emissions check from the original tail pipe. (Note that he should be positively encouraged to insert his probe to measure the zero emissions).
To quote the Professor, "Vorsprung Dirch Trixt".
Do let us know how you get on.

Re: Reducing Emissions
------plus the concours guys will never have to polish the inside of the pipe again!
Re: Reducing Emissions
Better to have a recording of the engine running playing through a hidden speaker, that way you save fuel and get to fit a stereo - that'll pass any emission test
I think I'll sell the idea to VW

It's only a matter of time before the phonecalls start:-
"Have you been mis-sold a VW?"
"Have you been mis-sold a VW?"

Re: Reducing Emissions
Working for a vw retailer, we feel this has been blown up to much by the media. From our experience on uk / europe cars (the cars effected 2010 - 2013 1.6 tdi) have far far cleaner emissions than the older 1.9 engine. Our cars in the uk run far to lean as it is. To a point that they are not as nice to drive as older engines. (ie dead at low revs needing to keep down the box more). Also if you wipe the rear tailpipe they are very clean. So i don't think this scandal will affect us over here. We think though that the usa cars may go like stink !!
I saw this today on facebook and thought it was quite funny[frame]

Hahaha, Very good
I doubt VW are the only manufacturer who've done it are they?? I think I'll keep mine anyway.

Re: Reducing Emissions
Glad we went for the petrol Golf, although I detest it . SWMBO finds it ok despite the appalling sharp brakes. Interesting to read Clarkson's article in the Sunday Times today... Says he doesn't care what comes the car's poo tube.
Re: Reducing Emissions
I think onj the back of this, the EU will ban diesels or at least make them very expensive to tax. Then when there are no diesels, it will come to light that the petrol emissions tests were also cheated and petrol was even more poisonous than diesel. That will be about the same time that it's discovered that electric vehicles are emitting ozone and electromagnetic pulses... ;)

Re: Reducing Emissions
Possibly the people sitting up and really taking notice are city dwelling asthma sufferers or those with COPD. Who you have to feel sorry for.
Either way V.W. are going to get the biggest shafting from U.S. litigators ever.
This on top of the current litigation regarding Audi (V.W) engines purportedly collapsing at the slightest hint of a thrashing, is particularly bad news for them.
Then when you consider they fit engines and management systems etc to Skodas, Porsches etc: I always thought Fiat would go bump first, but I could be wrong.
As for Clarkson, the tobacco will get him long before the car fumes.
