HIF44 confusion

Hello guys, I've got myself a hif44 and I can't make sense of how to fit it, it's like the throttle body is reversed or something, and I bought the fitting plate (abutment plate?) And that doesn't seem to work with it either! Is it off a weird car? Cheers

Can't really tell from that picture - we need more - carb flanges and manifold flange. Why a 44 ? Is it a modified 1275 engine ?

http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy93 ... 3272386753 its not so much the carb to manifold issue, because i know my manifold will work, i just cant figure out how id attach the accelerator and choke cable. as you can see from that pic, its almost like the mechanisms should be on the other side of the carb in order for the plate to work. and bmc at the moment its a standard 1275 but that large valve head i bought off of you the other day is gonna be ported some more and tidied up, and i have a larger bore exhaust to go with it too. this is the part number if that helps http://i781.photobucket.com/albums/yy93 ... 3272386753

You would really need to change the camshaft to get benefit of that exchaust. Looks like maybe not the correct plate?

It looks like your carb is one of a pair of twins, unfortunately it's the one with the mechanism on the opposite side to a Mini which is what your abutment plate is off

It's only an 1 1/2" lcb exhast the one esm do, so not overly large, would I still need to get a mild cam? I was thinking about it but my dad recons it'll make it a bit crap in lower revs. Panky, that makes a lot of sense thinking about it, I assume it's not use able then unless I make that plate essentially inverted?

The abutment plate is just an anchor point for the cables and the bottom part acts as a heat shield from the exhaust, but looking at the linkages I'm not sure if one would be suitable. It looks like the choke on your carb is operated by pulling down on the quadrant so a connection to an AP wouldn't work and the throttle cable ball joint connection would go over centre and not stay in line with the cable. The linkages should look something like this for use with an abutment plate.



The quadrant on the throttle keeps the cable in line so it doesn't snag.
So I'd shelve the abutment plate for now and see if you can work out some other way to anchor the cables, or see if you can get suitable linkages to fit your carb, should be cheaper than a new one

Just looked at the side view of your carb again and the choke is straight forward, there's a lug in the casting, just below the dome, where the outer cable is anchored and the inner cable fixes to the nipple on the choke quadrant. So it's just the throttle to sort out

The standard 1275 cam is very mild - a better one will give rewards... MG Metro -or AC Dodd RS cam would be ideal. And yes - easy enough to make a throttle cable mounting, or 'cut and shut' that one.
