Polishing bodywork.

Hi, apologies if this subject has arisen on the forum before; a bloke I work with reckons you are far better to apply polish to the bodywork and leave it on overnight before buffing, rather than do it in one sitting. Obviously, this only applies to anyone with a garage as you will need to do this undercover. He says the finish will be far superior and claims a paint-sprayer gave him this advice. Does anyone endorse this?
I'm using Autoglym Super Resin polish.

Just get on with it..... Leaving will only attract dust/dirt/flies - leading to surface scratching.

I would use super resin to build up a shine to dull paint. Then use autoglym hd wax. It is dear but well worth it. A tub will do several cars. Super resin is ok, but it would take lots of applications to only one application of hd wax

Thanks for the replies, most useful and a learning curve for me. I have never heard of Autoglym hd wax and looking on eBay, yes it is dear; however, it will not stop me trying it. Perhaps put it on my Christmas list!

Polish is for bringing back the shine and removing grime in the surface of the paint , some polishes may stain the paint if left over night, the polished paint will need protecting with a wax finish, lots of different types on the market
