Hello!
So the Traveller needs a new heater valve.......
ESM & Bull Motif state that there is a quality issue at present & no reliable valves available.
However...Eggletons & ANG are offering valves for sale!
In whom does one put ones trust? Any ideas?

Bought one recently for a friend, from andrew Eggleton on ebay. No problems with it as yet. I would search it on ebay and buy it from him. I think his seller name is ame ??? Remember a new gasket too.

why not get the early type... no more need to
replace them as these should last forever.
only thing is you have to turn them on and off in the engine bay.

If you used a remote 1500cc Midget heater tap assy you could mount it in the passenger compartment and open and close as required.
For example:-

And for the ingenious and mechanically minded - the original heater valve cable could be used to open and close the valve.

There appears to be a problem currently with the quality control of the original type heater cable operated valves - so until that is sorted/resolved possibly not a wise time to buy an aftermarket original type cable operated heater valve and that is why alternative interim solutions are being offered.

Just fit a stub pipe - the valve should be left open all year round anyway!

As i wrote earlier. I have purchased one lately myself. With no issues as yet. Surely they can't all be bad. Or source a secondhand one in good order.

I realise that you had bought a heater valve and as always there will be good ones and bad ones but so far I have not heard a good word said for the currently available cable operated heater valves.
Hopefully that will change in due course.
Quality and supply problems with the cable operated heater valve was a hot topic of conversation at my local MM branch recently.

Well my valve came apart last night and the traveller spent the night on the pub car park.Quality and supply problems with the cable operated heater valve was a hot topic of conversation at my local MM branch recently.

I was just about to order a new valve when I came across this thread. We got the car in March and the valve looks shiny and quite new but has parted at the join between the face and valve body. Looking at it there are four locating clips which are meant to hold it together but these appear to be held in place only by their corners being bent - not very secure - and the movement of the operating lever has been enough to disturb them.
Anyway, got it home by blanking off the cylinder head exit and now contemplating the options. I'll probably go for the old style valve as we have one on the pick-up and that works fine. We run it closed in the summer and have not had an overheating problem... yet.

I had the same problem and to date I have replaced three of these valves in as many years and after the advice from the folks on here I have resorted to fitting the old type and leaving the valve open all the time .Ok so I own a convertible so it's not an issue with leaving the valve open and having a bit of warm air percolating through to the cab but hey ho it's better than driving along then suddenly there's water pouring out from the system! So far so good.
p.s. by leaving the valve open it stops potential debris settling in the heater box and causing possible future problems!
