Removing the speedo drive from the g'box

Post by MikeNash »

Dear all,
I'm pulling the engine and g'box out to repair the clutch - its got oil in it. But after unscrewing the speedometer cable from the gearbox I can't pull it out.[frame]Image[/frame] It should just pull out, shouldn't it?
If I cant' do it,does undoing that plastic nut and fitting that screws(?) into the gearbox help?
Thanks in advance., MikeN.

It should just pull out, perhaps the strands are starting to break apart and holding it in place.

It should indeed just pull out. But yes - you can undo the fixing and take the lot out. In my view - it's MUCH easier to just pop the engine to access the clutch!

It should come out with a wiggle but if not then unscrew the plastic section which will pull the pinion gear out. Take care not to damage the threads

Thanks everyone!
I'll do as you say and "proceed with caution". Re engine removal Roy, I need to get to a bit of rusty chassis near the g'box and so its best out - although getting the clutch levers and roddery out it becoming a pain.
