We are going to convert my mate's traveller in the near future to disk brakes. He has the kit already. At the moment there is a problem with the master cylinder so it has to come out for inspection. The car is due for an MOT but we would like to get the MOT first and then do the disk conversion in case they start asking questions and demanding paperwork. Depending on the tester and which MOT test station it can be a major problem over here. That is an issue on it's own.
The question is can we remove the top hat seal in advance of the disk conversion or would that cause a problem with the standard brakes? We obviously don't want to have to remove the M/C twice if avoidable.-any thoughts?

Re: Master cylinder top hat seal
Someone more knowledgeable will be along but as I remember the top hat seal maintains some pressure in the system so the brake shoes run close to the drum for a quicker response so removing it will let the shoes retract more which might affect the brake operation - so you might need to remove it twice
