First things first, the blower motor(smiths cylinder shaped one)definetely works as i ran wires directly to the two white wires going into the motor.
But the little chrome lever switch mounted on the body of the blower tinware does nothing? Two things i've noticed with a test light, the two white wires going to the blower are always live??When i take the wires off the little switch that operates the blower and test them one wire is getting a live feed, and one obviously isn't.
Other strange thing is when i shorted out the two wires going to the switch nothing happens?Surely the fan should operate as shorting these wires should be the same as flicking the switch,no?

One side of that switch should be connected to earth as the return path - so the earth connection must be lost. Eitehr trace and fix the wire - or run a new one to earth.
