Is it dash or column mounted? Have you undone the retaining ring? How about a photo? The switch is generally a loose fit within the hole and comes out very easily. Is it a standard Minor switch?

Dash mounted. All other fittings came off with fingernails in the grooves. should there be a large nut behind?

Couldn't answer the others but will take a photo if it doesn't come out tomorrow.

it comes out from the back , sometimes the connections can hold up but it will come out , as it had to go in in the first place :D

There should be a locking nut on the back - take the speedo out...

Yes, there is a locking nut at the back, but that effectively controls how far out the switch will protrude, and does not need to be removed to remove the switch. The switch is retained by a screw on collar round where the key goes. With that undone, the switch should "just" move in to the dash. Perhaps a previous owner used superglue or similar to hold the collar in place.

Yes but if the nut is slackened with a spanner - the ring will unscrew easily.
