Traveller Wood

Hi Guys,
I know this has been asked many times before, and I've tried looking through previous posts but am unable to find.
The time has come to sand down the wood on my wife's Traveller and I know people have said use Danish oil but which type of sandpaper and where do I go to buy Danish oil ? Thanks in advance Neil.

Unless you car is permanently under cover I wouldn't use Danish oil as it's not UV protective. Far better to first give everything a good few applications of Cuprinol 5 then, after a few days drying time, give it a couple of coats of clear Osmo Oil which is UV protective,specifically designed for exterior wood and doesn't darken it down too much.

Just use whatever grade of paper is necessary - if old varnish present then it needs to be carefully scraped off -traditionally a broken shard of glass would be used....but a paint scraper works well enough. I agree with the Cuprinol 5 star - plenty of it - but keep the drain holes clear ! I use Teak oil - but it is a bit sticky when the sun gets on it.

Hi I used a fine sandpaper unless it is varnished and then cuprinal clear wood preserver followed by osmo 410 clear
I've found that the osmo oil is by far the best superb stuff does not go tacky when dry and the best thing is you don't have to flat it when you fancy giving it another coat.

I am going to be stripping and treating my Traveller wood too. Approximately how much Osmo 410 oil might I need please?
I've got plenty of Cuprionol 5 star.

It doesn't take much at all, I think I only used about half an inch off the top of a 1 litre tin, the driveway gates got the rest

It says on the tin I have 0.75l and that was enough to do it last year and this plus some over.

Last night I spent 1.5 hours attempting to sand vanish off the wood from a traveller using 120 grit sandpaper. I managed to get a about 30cm completed... Maybe a paint scraper will be a better idea for the second attempt on Friday??? Once the vanish was off some 1800 on a gentle little mouse sander worked a treat to get it all nice and smooth.
