Quick question - are 950 & 1098 flywheels the same?

Quick answer - NO
The clutch on the 1098cc has a larger clutch assy.
The whole assembly is interchangeable - that is flywheel/driven plate/pressure plate and rear engine plate to either 1098cc to 948cc or 948cc to 1098cc.
Check for clearance in the gearbox bell housing when fitting the larger 1098cc clutch assembly if using the 948cc gearbox.

I will wait until I pull the existing engine from the car and swap the bits over.

In the BMC wksp manual section EE (both hard copy and on line) there does not appear to be any reference to clearance in the bell housing but saying that the later gearboxes had the hole in the top of the bell housing for clearance so again I say check for clearance and if necessary make clearance. Use of the thicker 1098cc rear engine plate does help as regards clearance.
