I'd like to introduce myself and my new car - Verity (Verty) - a lovely 1960 Clipper Blue Traveller with 59,000 genuine miles.
She's largely original - brakes, dynamo etc. and she has trafficators which will work if wired up. I also chose to have the wheels, grill and coach line painted the correct Pearl Grey which, I think, goes well with the car colour.
I have just driven her from Cambridge where she had been serviced to pass her MOT. I wanted to avoid motorways but 'A' roads were busy so ended up on motorway. She received lots of smiles and kindly waves.
Priority is to get a cover for her - canvas one I'm thinking unless I build a car port.
My very first car was a Rose Taupe 1963 traveller and I always had a yearning to go back to one and I'm so pleased I've been able to.
I do have a couple of questions but don't want to jump in straight away :-?[frame]Image[/frame]

She looks lovely. Better get a cover before winter,the wood can deteriorate quite alarmingly.

Many thanks :D I'm going to sand down the wood, Cuprinol 5* and then oil .... and a cover.
The rain is already worrying me.

Hi Vergal and welcome. Nice traveller, I can recommend Osmo oil after the Cuprinol 5. I used it on mine and it's excellent stuff.

Thanks Panky - good to know of a good oil to use.

Hi,
Don't let the rain worry you, there are Travellers on here that live outside. Just treat the wood, as you've described, then you'll be fine.
I believe they need re-doing every few years anyway to keep the wood good, perhaps someone could confirm how often.
If your going to build a car port anyway though, why not build a wooden garage?
It doesn't require planning permission, there are kits and it wouldn't require that much more effort than it will to build your car port.
You'll need a level concrete (or slab) base already..................

Hi Mike, just being mindful of my very good neighbours - a car port is a bit less obtrusive for everyone :D
But you are right, if I keep everything well polished and proofed it might help too.

Don't forget engine oil and waxoil in all the nooks and crannies helps allot also.

PS: I had a chat with my neighbour and they are quite happy for me to build a garage when I can afford to, so perhaps you might find they are more receptive to your needs than you think??
