Traveller boxing plate extension

Is this actually necessary and is it possible to get a quality repair panel for it? Many thanks!

Cheers. I made another call and have been advised to get one fabricated without a hole in it. ;)

The flanged hole is to stiffen the panel. Who gave this wonderful advice ? I suppose if you use heavy enough steel it will be ok....

Does it normally connect to other bodywork on all sides? Thicker steel is a good tip though cheers.
