series 2 wheels tubeless ???

yet another to tube or not to tube question !! this time it's about the rims , has anyone had any problems using series 2 rims tubeless , i am asking as i have a tyre changer machine and the beads took no effort to break so i was wondering if the earlier rims are not designed to run tubeless , any thoughts

They certainly don't have the safety ledges that modern wheels have - but tubless run perfectly well, although 30/34 psi is the norm rather than the soggy 24 psi (!) some use - where I suspect there could be some risk of pulling the bead away on sharp cornering.

i am fitting new crossply tyres which can be tubed or not depending on the rim type so i have contacted the tyre supplier and they have said tube them due to the lack of safety bead on the rim , so i have my answer

As long as the crossply tyres (why - they are hopeless compared to radials?) are smooth inside - so they don't chafe the tubes.

my car has crossplys on now and drives fine for what i want and i am trying to keep it period

I didn't even know it was possible to get crossply tyres these days! When I was Curing Area Engineer at UniRoyal almost 50 years ago, we were rapidly phasing out crossply production !!!

There are two different wheels on the Series II, the early Series MM wheels with 4 1/2 in PCD and the later M1000 wheels with 4 in PCD. I have run both tubeless with no problems. If you run the MM wheels tubeless make sure that the tyre fitters have the larger valves fitted to the MM wheels before they rip the existing valves out and throw them across the floor

new tyres now fitted and with tubes , i checked with the tyre supplier and they confirmed tubes are fine , i know i fitted crossplys but what a difference , it drives so much smoother and no shakes at speed also it looks so period with black wheels on a black car

Shakes at speed is down to poor wheel balance, nothing to do with tubes

and 2 buckled wheels don't help !!!
