WHEELS OUT OF BALANCE

as some may know i bought a set of 15" wheels off a well known trader....

i have'nt been any great distance until yesterday.

when reaching above 50mph there was bad wheel wobble .

had them checked today and they were all way out.
the strange thing was they all had to much balance weights on them.
yet when purchased i was told ready to fit etc....
anyone else had this happen

You can always do a quick check with a 'static' balance on the front hubs - assuming the brakes are not dragging.

I am getting my Series MM front wheels balanced tomorrow. I went for a drive yesterday and the steering wheel was vibrating above 55 mph. I will get the wheels checked with the present weights on and if they are out then I will get them rebalanced.
That way I will know that if the steering still vibrates then I will have another problem

why would they be over weighted

Perhaps not - the wheels may not be 'square' on the hubs....I would check that. And the drums are significantly out of balance anyway. I've always found the static balance ON the hub works very well for the speeds a Minor is capable of. Then I mark the stud and wheel to make sure it always goes back on same way. Also costs nothing.......

why would they be over weighted

Somebody didn't remove the old weights before balancing a new tyre I would guess.

Are the wheels hub-centric - or stud - centric ?

I guessed it was them - but do they locate on the hubs or on the studs ? What does the seller say ? May be as simple as the 'boy' not really knowing how to use the balancer.......

Balancers grip the wheels on the centre. Perhaps if there is a slight difference between studs and centres.......
