Morris Minor 1000 in Zimbabwe and Botswana Africa

Post by Arms Moggy Africa »

Dear fellow Morris Minor owners, its great to link in from Africa and learn so much from you all. It is very exciting to have recently purchased an original 1960 Morris Minor 1000 and currently preparing her for a trip to Victoria Falls and Chobe on the great Zambezi river. I would love to also hear about some of your experiences and tours in your part of the world.[frame]Image[/frame]

Indeed. Smoky grey original paintwork. Just gave her a bit of a polish and shine this weekend.

You South Africans, and Australians, are much more adventurous than many of us Brits who consider driving a couple of hundred miles across the country to the National Rally too far, let alone half way across the world as you people have done

Thank you. Will certainly post my adventure pics and stories. The extra light was installed by the previous owner as the indicator or signalling system based on the fact that the pop out side indicators are not working and he could not source spares out here in Zimbabwe. We really envy you Morris Minor owners up there in the UK with all the spares so readily available.

Don't envy us TOO much. All our UK Morris Minors rust away :x . Having owned a Minor imported from South Africa (should've kept it!) I can tell you the difference is amazing!

We do have our fair share of rust too, in Botswana and Zimbabwe.

Was wondering where I can find a genuine Morris Minor crank handle, to show my high tech kids, how you can crank start a car.
Are these available?

I'm also outside of the UK and I've had a very good experience getting parts from ESM; they can probably also ship to Zimbabwe and they have the crank handle which also fits the original lug nuts.

Before starting the car with the handle wrap a little bit of masking tape where it exits the bumper as it rattles a lot when the engine starts and can chip the paint/chrome on the bumper.

Also, great luck on the trip! Be sure to upload some pictures.
