Lower door repair kit or whole skin?
decided after great deliberation that I'm keeping moggy now, and am going to get it nicely refurbished where required.
Bottoms of the 2 doors are bubbling, noyt badly, but in need of replacement imo.
Which route as title suggested?
Repair panels for £30 or full skins for £130ish iirc?
Is it possible for the repair panels to look absolutely perfect when welded in?
Depends very much on the skill of the welder I suppose?

the best route is to find some good used doors

Or to repair the existing ones perhaps?aupickup wrote:the best route is to find some good used doors
They really aren't that bad, but I don't want the inevitable holes filling only to start bubbling up again in 12 months time.
If that could be done, then that would be my favourite option.

Re: Lower door repair kit or whole skin?
For what it's worth I recently asked the same question on here and I decided to go for a lower repair panel from ESM , the fit was almost perfect and mine wasn't too bad either. At £17 + vat it was a steal and the outcome from the body shop was a door that now looks as good as new and the paint shop guys said it's one of the best panels they've fitted in ages.
p.s. I only had mine done about three weeks ago.

i presume the cutting has to be absolutely 'bob on' 100% accurate?Budgie wrote:For what it's worth I recently asked the same question on here and I decided to go for a lower repair panel from ESM , the fit was almost perfect and mine wasn't too bad either. Re: Lower door repair kit or whole skin?
Well not really as it's all profiled backed with filler which is minimal if it's done properly and the body shop wax oiled inside the door as standard.
Re: Lower door repair kit or whole skin?
The CW skins are 2 door only, and 'if available'.....plus delivery, and THEN plus vat on the whole lot....

This is my reply to Budgie when he asked the same question:
My doors were only bad at the bottom so this is what I did, and the repair panels and bits came from ESM and I found that they were of the correct size.
Get the doors sandblasted first, makes things a lot easier.

Cut away the rotten bits:

Weld in repair panel and fill, lots of hand work and prep required here.

Sprayed with primer, as you can see the boot needed repairing as well:

Oh and dont forget the two sealing strips at the bottom of the doors.

Hope this helps, Good luck.
