Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
I have wired up the trafficators and the flashers using the diagram below.
I now have the problem of getting the light in the speedo to work in conjuction. Is this possible being as each side is on a different system and if not how do I get around the problem?

Wire each side of the lamp to one side. Obviously needs to be an insulated bulb holder..........

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
Thank you for your suggestion. I have been told I am not allowed to do it that way. So after some searching I have found another diagram:
I was then told that I now need to have the light in the speedo flashing in order for this to work. So do I get another flasher unit and wire it into the system after the two wires are joined from the trafficators? Are there any flashing bulbs that I could fit into the speedo? Or is it a case a feeding a wire from the flashers as opposed to the trafficators?

Why on earth would you 'not be allowed' to do it that way? Who says?? The Indicator Police ?? It will work - try it with temporary wiring to see.....

I have heard you can now get bulbs that flash themselves to fit in the trafficators in place of the normal ones.

My Grandfarther says and being as the car is at his and locked in his garage until it is completed I don't really have much of a say.bmcecosse wrote:Why on earth would you 'not be allowed' to do it that way? Who says??

Apparently the flashing LED trafficator bulbs were selling like hotcakes at last weekends Austin national meet. They use v.little power and the guys still on dynamos, and without conventional indicators, seem well impressed.

What on earth is a Grandfarther ??? He'll know best then - he'll know how to do it. Ask him.......

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
The original diagram was intended to wire the trafficators on a Series MM with a non flashing warning light built into the switch and added flashing indicators.
Give Autosparks a ring on 0115 949 7211, they are usually very helpful

Just wire it across each side as BMC says, simples, thats how its done on a mini I think.

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
Thank you for the number, when I get a chance I will phone them.
I have not asked him, I am trying to prove there is another way then screwing some sort of panel with two light on under the dash as he is adamandt that a car with flashing indicators has to have a flashing warning light on the dash regardless of the age of the vehicle simple because it has flashers and that connecting the two circuits to one bulb will cause it to short out whatever you do, and the only way to use the speedo light would be to have a double filament bulb and there are no bulbs small enough to do the job.bmcecosse wrote:He'll know best then - he'll know how to do it. That may well be the case and if I had a say in what was done I would do so, if anyone could provide such a diagram from a mini to proove that it is possible I would be most grateful.biomed32uk wrote:Just wire it across each side as BMC says, simples, thats how its done on a mini I think.

What indicator switch do you have fitted? Is there a spare light in your speedo?
On my s11 traveller which has the brown turn switch with the red light in the middle we ran a wire from the red warning light to the dash and used the indicator light in the speedo but I dont think 1000 have this.

Too many Minors so little time.....
Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
Well - he and you are completely wrong and obviously don't understand electricity.... A single filament bulb in the speedo is all that is required. I'm taking no further interest in this thread since you are refusing to see the sense.

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
My Series MM has the indicators and trafficators wired as in the Autosparks diagram and has never failed an MOT on non flashing indicator warning light for the past 30 years

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
The indicator switch is a stalk switch that includes the horn and being as the car is 1956 there is no light on the stalk but in the speedo. Thank you all for you help, the main problem that I have now though is not solving the problem but trying to convince someone that there is no problem with the light in the speedo not flashing which I do not think is going but too successful but I must try.

I couldn't add more to the technical advice given but I admire your respect for your grandfather. Far more important to keep a strong family bond than railroad an old chap into doing something he doesn't believe in. Doesn't matter if it's right or not, really, it's his opinion and it's a shame that others can't see that and throw their toys out of the pram.

Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
Thank you for your kind words, they are much appreciated.
Re: Speedo indicator light with flashers and trafficators.
He obviously has no idea - the method works. He won't know how it has been done, the light will simply wink with the indicators..... Result!! I can't wait to see what method Grandfarther (sic) comes up with.......
