Skuttles and door cards

Post by Celia »

Every door panel and skuttle seems to curl up,
Ive just bought a new set and havent even fitted them yet, been in the garage 2 days and already they are curling. Has anyone tried waterproofing them, perhaps a coating of PVA on the bare card at the back? would this stop the card absorbing moisture from the air and making it curl?

your door panels will be held in places by lots of push clips and should not curl, your scuttle panels will be held in place by the parcel shelf, until they get put in your car I would lay them flat . when fitting the door panels some fit a sheet of thin plastic to the door to prevent water getting in.

Until you fit them lay the door cards on the floor (spare room floor?) with books on top to keep them flat. I fitted plastic sheeting (available from garden centres) to my doors using gaffa tape - do remember to punch holes in tape for clips! This does seem to keep any moisture down to a minimum. My car is outside all the time and they've been fitted for about 8 years now.

I made the scuttle panels from hardboard, covered them and held them in place by the parcel shelf and screws down the A posts.
