Spoof "eBay" messages.

Post by 57traveller »

Don't know if anyone else has had any, but I've received two e-mails over the past week inviting me to become a "Power Seller" with eBay. beware they are fake and nothing to do with eBay. There is a link, as usual, that will display log on request (username & password). Obviously if someone logs on through this account details will then be accessible by the sender(s).
Never had any like this before so looks like someone is trying a different method to steal identity.

Thanks for the warning, 57. These individuals need horse-whipping.

I was sent this information when I tried to pay using paypal, (wanted $1.95 refundable against future purchases) so sent a cheque instead - I think E bay is becoming a bit dodgy now as they do not police it very well. I am hearing too many stories of scams and people taking money and not sending goods. If someone is barred, they just set up a new account - so what's the deterent?

With any of these type of fakes if you click on reply or the link quoted you will find the address does not start with ebay.whatever, if I get anything like this I send them to their spoof section and to date everyone has been a fake and ebay have responded quite quickly.

I do the same Kevin but I wonder if it's worth the bother. I posted a couple of weeks ago about sending a genuine eBay message, as a test, to "spoof" and then being told it was a fake!! I suspect it's just automated replies all with the same outcome irrespective of what is sent to them.
I hope I'm wrong though. Received another a few minutes ago with the power seller invitation.

Well if they are offering you power seller status you must be a heavy ebay trader 57.
