leaks!!

Post by Rockabillyriri »

Hi guys i have 2 leaks one is water seems to be coming in from the left hand side of my heater and dripping down a pipe on to the matts on the floor, the second leak is from the drivers side glove box i think this could be maybe from the window but not sure. Just wondered if anyone had these leaks before and how they fixed them.

The one for the heater could be either the heater matrix leaking or a split heater pipe, can you see if the leak is the same colour as the water in the radiator? it could be a clue.
As for the other leak, it could be the window, wiper seal, windscreen washer seal or the bonnet seal. Best way to find out is to spray water in and around each area and try to find it that way.
Can you see if any seals are degraded?

Ah ok the heater leak is clear water and only does it when its raining and the seal around my windowscreen on the outside i can squish a water out of it on one little section by the windowscreen wiper so maybe its worth replacing the seal?

Sometimes water can also get in around the wiper spindle thingies. You can check that the seals under the chrome finishers that surround the wiper drive shafts aren't leaking before replacing the windscreen rubber!

It's all the one leak, if the screen rubber is squishy then yes renew, but be aware of possible rot under the seal..... And if a laminated screen, extreme care required.

Captain Tolley's creeping crack repair is a fantastic product that doesn't seem to have become big in the classic car world. It's primarly for boats, you pour a little of the stuff in to where you think water's getting in, if there is a leak it tends to run in to the crack very fast, if not it will just sit there.

Used a very little amount of the stuff to stop water pooling in the corner of my windscreen leaking through.
