Pre-Ignition

A few days ago after a half hour run, I turned the engine off with the key and experienced some pre ignition with the engine running on briefly.

The car has got electronic ignition so not really sure what could have caused it.
Any ideas? Carb setup? Hot spark plugs? Unleaded fuel? Fuel pump?

Is this a common problem with Morris Minors or just a general engine problem?

I've always associated that with ignition timing and mixture and/or cylinder chambers needing a thorough cleaning to shift carbon.

It is most likely to be the ignition which is too far advanced, try retarding it a little.

Usually the opposite ... Running too retarded. Or oil burning engine.

Any idea how I could adjust the ignition timing now that the car has electronic ignition?

Adding a fuel additive could I suppose reduce any carbon deposits in the engine.

Might be an idea to pull out a few spark plugs to see how they look. I am wondering if the car has not really been driven by the previous owners and is now a little coked up.

The timing is adjusted just the same, slacken the pinch bolt on the dizzy and twist anti clock-wise to retard and clockwise to advance, only slightly mind. Even easier if there's an adjustment screw on the dizzy.

Turn it clockwise to ADVANCE slightly. NO additives. Run some water through it and good revs this clear carbon.
