And when the electric car batteries are knackered it is not financially viable to replace them and the car is scrapped.
What is the life of a battery and does it gradually lose efficiency so that it can power the car for 100 miles when new and end up with just enough power to reach the nearest supermarket?

Don't worry, the car will be scrapped because 'the software is no longer supported' long before the battery is knackered

Re: A Bit Depressing
Battery technology is getting better and is close to the point where it will enable other sources of energy which are intermittent to become viable.

Yes, it was just a very long advert for Tessla.

As moggies are fairly economical, then the planet suffers less in terms of co2 if we keep them going. This is especially true if we actually use them as transport, rather than as a second or third vehicle that only comes out at weekends.

I've seen a battery powered moggy years n years ago as i had one when I was about 6. It had steering, lights a horn n everything but couldn't go all the way to the end of our hallway as the cable was too short !
