gearbox dip stick

Post by philthehill »

Whilst searching the web I came across a picture of a conversion where a dip stick tube had been fitted to the side of the gearbox where the spherical ball (Pt No: ACA5121 (MOSS)) fits into the side cover (Pt No: 88G214 (MOSS)).
This allowed the gearbox oil level to be checked from under the bonnet.
The indent for the spherical ball had been drilled right through the side cover into the gearbox and a tube bolted on using the spherical ball holding bolt holes.
Anyone come across this modification before?
Unfortunately I lost the link and am now trying to find it again to post on here.
Whilst checking the gearbox oil level is not onerous any thing to make life easier is a bonus. 8)
But of course no good if you have a original mechanical linkage operated clutch.

Morris were ahead of Austin on that one. On the Series MM gearbox peal back the top of the carpet, remove the cover plate and there is the dipstick and filler plug
