Posted this on here for interest as many people may not have seen a cam of this spec before.
The extra worm gear would have driven a dry sump scavenging oil pump fitted were the mechanical fuel pump would have been fitted (or not).

Re: Special AEG649 camshaft
I do not remember the extra worm gear on the genuine BMC ST 649 currently fitted in my 1380cc Minor.
I may take the fuel pump cover off and look inside the crankcase to determine if it is or is not fitted and report back.

Re: Special AEG649 camshaft
I took off the fuel pump blanking plate to examine the genuine BMC ST 648 (649) cam fitted to my Minor so as to determine if it has the additional worm gear which is used to drive a dry sump scavenging pump.
I found that my 649 cam does not have the additional worm gear just the usual fuel pump lobe.
If my memory serves my right the 649 cam with the additional worm gear was in addition to the usual configured 649 and supplied to special order.
I have seen one of these special 649 cams previously and being used to drive a dry sump scavenging pump but have never seen one for sale so quite a rarity.
Anyway it was sold for £132 and had 24 bidders so quite some interest.

I believe original Competition Dept 649 had the additional drive gear - the one I used (many many moons ago) certainly had that. Perhaps when 'Special Tuning' got involved - they deleted the gear?
