Dynamo pulley shattering
My Dynamo fan belt pulley shattered today , what would cause that and can you buy just the pulley on its own . Will the pulley come off without a puller
Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Oh dear....probably due to earlier abuse.... I may have a spare working dynamo - I can check in the morning if you wish ?

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Thanks Roy but was talking to a pal few minutes ago who's giving me one , only thing is its negative earth. I know there's a way to convert and fit but not sure how to. Can you help with that. Failing that I'll buy the one off you
Thanks Ronnie
Thanks Ronnie
Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Simply join the two terminals together - then dynamo on the floor - jump lead from casing to your battery +ve earth, other jump lead from the joined terminals to your -ve battery connection. Put your foot on the dynamo before connecting - it will give a little jump and should run as a motor - if it's any good ! And - it's now converted to +ve earth.....

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Thanks Roy , been told the Dynamo is working so thanks for the advice . This is the first time I've ran it since changing the chain and sprockets to duplex , panicked as it sounded like a grinding from the camshaft

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Got the Dynamo of my friend. It was a black aftermarket one so I changed the pulley to my original green Lucas. All went well and bolted up as before. Starting the engine I quickly smelt burning rubber. The black pulley is restricted by the bottom bolt on the sliding arm. There seems no way of adjusting it not to hit the fan blade. Any suggestion short of putting on the black one

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Are the pulleys lined up perfectly? There should be NO interference with any bolts..... A picture of the problem would help.....

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Is the slotted adjustment bar and securing bolts the right way round? I have seen them fitted both ways round.
Is the slotted adjustment bar the right side of the dynamo flange?
As bmc says a photo would help.

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
I had this happen once, the original one has a the corner cut off the fan to clear the bolt.
Too many Minors so little time.....

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
I'm thinking the aftermarket pulley is obviously not the same as the Lucas one , bit hard to tell as the Lucas pulley is shattered. I would like to keep the original Lucas Dynamo. So was thinking of cutting the fans on the pulley to suit rather than fitting the black aftermarket Dynamo
Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
I don't see why the fan is anywhere near the bolt - is the bolt in wrong way round? Strap fitted wrong side ? And are the pulleys lined up perfectly - or does it need a spacer to move the dynamo pulley forward slightly?

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
I've just buffed about 3mm off the adjusting plate from the engine to the Dynamo where the bolt goes in and all well apart from just discovered that when the pulley has shattered it's damaged the radiator . It's only a pin hole so is there anything you could suggest rather than a new rad. The fan belt is running true

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
If it is only a pin prick you could try the following:-
Egg whites.
Porridge oats.
or this:-

Re: Dynamo pulley shattering
Barrs Leaks works ok - but I would also put a blob of Araldite on the hole.
