Drained/empty fuel tank is more dangerous than a full tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would advise that you remove the tank and be SAFE .......SAFE......SAFE.

As above - empty tank is a far greater risk....either remove - or drain and fill to the brim with water....

Understood, will probably drain and remove, could do with a wire brush down and lick of paint around the rim (of the hole left by the tank).

Ok, i've removed the tank this evening, good job too as there was some rust on the bodywork lip that the tanks sits on so I'm dealing with that.

When it comes to putting the tank back though, i can't see any petrol tank gaskets from the usual suppliers (Bull Motif, ESM, Charles Ware etc)......am i looking in the wrong place? I've found the small cork one for the petrol sender unit so I thought the main tank one would be there too.

Any thoughts pls? And I see there was some sort of sealant around the tank too, what should I use for that pls.

The petrol tank is sat on a layer of sealant i.e. DUM DUM compound, mastic sealant/jointing or the caulk as in the link below - the securing screws inserted and tighten progressively around the tank.. There is no gasket between the fuel tank and the body.
