Hi have fitted a new clutch plate to my 66 Traveller, the linkage is also all new.
I cant get the car into gear with the engine running.
If I put it into first engine off with the clutch down it will crank over but not start so presume its not seized just not separating from flywheel enough.
Have looked through inspection hole and release bearing/arm is moving properly.
Clutch is adjusted with 3/4 inch of play at pedal.
Any suggestions gratefully received please.
Clutch not releasing enough

Re: Clutch not releasing enough
Have you got the correct 1098 clutch release bearing? Different from 803/948 thrust bearing
Is it a new pressure plate?
Did the engine and gearbox mate easily when you refitted them?
Is the clutch release lever the correct way round?
Do the brake and clutch pedals move together on the shaft when you press the clutch or brake pedals?
Adjust the linkage at the bottom of the pedal travel until you can engage the gears without crunching then see if you have clutch slip with your foot off the clutch

Re: Clutch not releasing enough
Assuming the clutch plate is in right way round (I don't think it's possible to fit it wrongly) - did you also fit a new carbon thrust - and is it identical to the old one ? Is it the old pressure assembly - or a new one ? Otherwise can only suggest reducing the free play even less - and double check the linkage is assembled correctly.

Re: Clutch not releasing enough
Thanks for the prompt replies.
Its a new clutch plate with the old pressure plate and release bearing(in good condition)
Gearbox mated easily.
Linkage is all new and freeplay is about 3/4 inch at pedal.
Pedals move freely as its all nicely greased.
I can see the the release arm working correctly through the inspection hole.
