since going to windows 8 I have lost my xp windows image resizing facility got it in the windows system but what is the size for placing photos on the forum.

Try 640 X 480, that's the size I use for re-sizing. But I've now set my phone camera to 'Low' resolution and that seems to be about the same.

Kennatt, are you resizing from a camera or a phone? As panky says it's easy enough to set a phone at a low resolution but you may not want to do this with photos taken on a digital camera.

I use a program called irfanview on my laptop for viewing,manipulating and resizing photos taken on my DSLR.
You can then keep the original intact and play with a copy.
It's freeware and you can download it here, http://www.irfanview.com
With irfanview when resizing images you can reduce the file size without reducing the image size.
