Hi Everyone,
I want to ask some advice if I may. I noticed today some brake fluid under my 'Moggy' and on inspection it appeared to be coming from the chamber where the master cylinder is situated. I took the cover off the chamber and there was a significant amount of brake fluid in the bottom of the chamber. When I checked the level of fluid it obviosly had gone down and so I topped the system up.
The thing is I can't find any leak from anywhere around the master cylinder. There does not appear to be a leak from the cylinder no matter how hard or how many times I pump the pedal and I have also checked the pipe joints on the master cylinder and that seems OK.
I have recently had new wheel cylinders , shoes and flexipipes fitted all round so thought that maybe this was putting extra strain on the master cylinder ??.... The only other thing is that on reading up about it , it appears that you top up the fluid to about half inch below the bottom of the neck in the cylinder and to be honest I topped it up to the bottom of the neck, Could this be causing extra pressure ? Any body any ideas please. Is it possible to get an intermittent fault with the master cylinder
Best Regards
Chris

Re: Brake Master cylinder
It could be that fluid has been pushed through the vent in the cylinder cap because of over filling. Make sure the level is as recommended and mop out the chassis rail to get rid of any spillage, it would be a good idea to give everything a squirt with brake cleaner too so if any leaks occur they will be more easily seen.

Re: Brake Master cylinder
Maybe just spillage - wait and see if the level drops over the next few weeks....

I agree, if someone else replaced those parts, it's likely they spilt fluid all over the cylinder! You can't get the staff nowadays!

Re: Brake Master cylinder
your above description would indicate to me that you have a leaking master or pipe,if you have a look at the end of the master where the rod enters you may find signs of fluid(There shouldn't be) I would check as a mater of urgency, remember there is no dual circuit system and if the master goes .......no brakeschrisgriffiths wrote:Hi Everyone,
