Tracking

Post by PaulB »

Hi there, can any one advise the settings to get my tracking checked and re-set after re-build. Went to ATS & Kwik-Fit, both and had no records of settings as the car is too old.
Too Old? She's only 40! Still a good looking Almond Green 2-door 1965.
Body fantastic, goes OK, what more can a man ask for...or woman for those moggesses out there!
Cheers

They'll probably want the tracking in degrees. When I asked the question on this forum Cam worked it out for me as 0.8 (zero point eight) degrees.

You need to ask for toe-in, 0.4 degrees per wheel. There's a very long thread in the 'tips' section which goes into this.

Important to make sure both track rods are set to the same length before finalising the tracking. BTW - It's dead easy to make your own tracking gauge from dexion or similar - and do it yourself !

0.4 degrees, how much would that be in inches?

i thought Chris said that was 0,8 degrees? Oh i jus had a brainwave, 0.4+0.4 degrees is 0.8, so that would be 3/64" per wheel, or am i stupid (please let me know...)

well yes, if you want it done wrong...
They measure the tracking wheel to wheel. There is no way they could set or measure one wheel on its own.

I would say there is a 50/50 chance the bloke will get it wrong if you just quote .8 degrees or if you ask for 2.5mm toe-in (as quoted in the handbook). The last time I asked for this to be done I had to show him the handbook and then draw a diagram showing 0.4 per wheel.....

You may think logically Ray, but it doesn't mean they do.

Matt, yes it was and appologies.
But do not need that type of reponse to a simple request of tracking settings.
Thanks
