Hi
I have fitted a HIF 38 to a standard 1098, and am struggling to get an acceptable set up that does not burn lots of oil, or result in fumes in the car. There seems to be lots of conflicting advice on this.
I have tried the following set up
1. HIF connected to tappet canister, non breathing cap -result good running but occasional smell of fumes in car, high oil consumption (but not significant leaks)
2. As above, with rocker cover joined into the line to the carb, breathing cap -results in reduced performance, but no smells in car.
Has anyone got any examples of set ups that work?
Should i go for option 2 with a non breathing cap? I am wondering if the cannister breather is blocked, or becomes blocked in service. I have flushed it out several times on the bench, and it seems fine but I have not opened t up.
THanks

Yes - it could well be blocked... Flush it through with petrol - or set it on fire (but not when full of petrol..) A 'breather cap' will always allow fumes at times.......
