problems when driving

Post by stuupnorth »

Hi all
just a quick question
took out the minor yesterday and found that 'she' had developed a hesitation under acceleration
(last time out no problems)
starts ok
the car has a 'Accuspark' ignition kit fitted with coil, plugs(not by me)
checked the oil in dashpot seems ok
any ideas

What 'coil' is fitted ?? A good old coil - or something 'new' looking? But could be many things. What colour are the plugs after a run?

Could be anything really - is the carb piston free to rise and fall? Try engine oil in the dashpot.

hi mate
thanks for the advice
I might try the engine oil in the carb dashpot it has 3 in 1 at the moment
also went through the box of bits the last owner gave me and there was a set of "standard ngk plugs"
fitted and it seems all ok(finger crossed)

Not sure about 3 electrode plugs. Fit some Champion RN9Y, but my gut feeling is that plugs won't suddenly cause hesitation. However, like Roy, I do not recommend NGK. Have you checked the vacuum advance as per my previous post?

Interesting? What's supposed to wrong with NGK plugs? Our 1380 has had an Aldon Ignitor electronic dizzy and NGK plugs for the last 50,000+ miles and never had anything wrong that I could blame the plugs or dizzy for. Was on BP7ES and now BP8ES (slightly 'colder') - for a standard(ish) engine BP6ES would be the grade to fit.
