Dental Hygene...

Missing teeth? Tis nought but a dab of Moly grease but it does remind me of a tale from many moons ago when my brother bought a ‘65’ 850 Mini, a lovely Morris badged version in Victoria Plum maroon. It started no problem on the test drive and so too when he picked it up a week later to drive it home. Next morning all you could hear was the starter whirling round and nothing else. It transpired that there were only a third of the teeth left on the starter ring. Then low and behold, underneath the drivers seat was a brand new ring neatly packaged in its genuine BMC box.

Here's a poor mans honing tool. Turn a piece of hardwood to the same diameter as a piston, maybe a few thou down on that. make an axial saw slit about 1/2" deep and wrap some 240 grit emery paper securing the ends in the slit. Stick it on a handle. A few strokes up and down with a twisting action will break any oil glaze, remove barnacles, lichen and any other hob-goblins clinging to the cylinder walls. Wash off with clean paraffin afterwards.
