Kingpin question.

Post by 67-2door »

Hi.
Just a quick question.
I know the earlier cars had 7" front brakes & later were 8", but are the kingpins & trunnions the same for all models?
Thanks.
Neil.

VERY early cars are different - but all later are similar enough - although there was a modification to the top mount on the damper arm, changing to rubber bushes - although now you should fit Polyurethane here anyway.

The Series MM/early Series II had the front wheel bearings integral with the brake drums and had different size bearings therefore the stub axles were different. The early swivel pins can be identified by the lack of the circular boss above the steering arm. Series MM hubs can be modified to fit the later swivel pins

The Morris Minor 8cwt commercial uprights look similar to the Minor 1000 but are different in that they have larger steering arm holes to accommodate the larger diameter steering arms.
The 8cwt steering arms are quite hard to come by these days but happy to be proved wrong.
Some Morris 1000 uprights came with two steering arm holes so they could be fitted to either the Morris 1000, the Wolseley 1500 or Riley 1.5.
