This is our method for bare metal respray.
Sand blast, then straight home from the blaster, Scotchbrite, de dust and spray with 2K acid etch.
You can then relax as the metal will not rust in minutes as bare metal would.
You can then proceed as required with filler, and primer.

I'm not an expert on etch primer, but it seems good stuff though I'm interested to know more about the types.
I etched the shell on my 58 after bare metalling it and that stuff I sprayed with was thin and pretty see-through but seemed to stick like glue.
I recently bough some spray cans of etch primer hoping for a similar effect but as it looked more like high build primer I'm not sure how well it will resist flaking.
I sand-blasted a couple of wheels and used the spray can etch, and when they fitted the tyres the topcoat got knocked here and there but the primer stayed on so maybe it is quite good, but I'm still a little dubious.
Does anyone have good/bad experiences of spray can etch primer? Any brands or types to go for, or avoid?
