Wiper Motor

Post by qwerty165 »

I have started rewiring my Minor and I now have a problem with the wiper motor. The motor runs continualously from the moment you turn the ignition on and will not stop unless you switch off the ignition. I have checked the wiring and found no problems, I have checked it against a wiring diagram and everything is as it should be. Is there anything that I have missed? Or is there something wrong with the wiper motor? And if so what can be done about it.

Was it ok before ? The motor has continuous power feed (green wire) when the Ign is on - it then earths through the (green/black) wire to the dash switch. And will run round even though you open the switch - until the pickup in the lid above the gearbox runs on to a 'dead' spot. Are you SURE the wires on the motor are on the correct terminals ??

The wires are on the right terminals that was my first thought hence finding a wiring diagram to confirm. As to being ok before hand, I would not know as the car had been standing for a year or so before I got it and it would not start. I did try it before I fitted it and it worked fine.

Well - it's finding a path to earth somehow ! Inspect the cap with the contact on top of the gearbox to see if something has gone wrong inside......

It will be something to do with the heater wire as it shares the same power source, we had this problem on Steveys car and it took a lot of messing around to sort. It was exlained to me but I must admit I didnt get it

it could for course be the dash switch, take the connections off and see if it stops.

Thank you for the suggestion, I have disconnected the wires to the switch and it made no diffrence.

Now sorted. After taking off the cover on the wiper motor and replacing it again it has started working properly. Thank you for all your suggestions and help.
