I'm soon going to put a new steering rack gaiter on my Morris as one of mine has fell to bits & it looks very dry inside.
Once I've replaced it how much oil should I put in the rack? I know normally you only put a few strokes of the grease gun (filled with ep90), but with the damaged gaiter will it have lost all of its contents?
Also, I've heard people say it's ok to use moly grease in the rack where others say stick to ep90, which is best?
I do have some semi fluid grease as it's specified for the gearbox in my AJS, would this be any good as it's thicker than ep90 but runnier than grease or is it best to stick to original recommendations?
Thanks.

I use the moly grease - it doesn't run away and hide in the bellows.... The old guard will be along to insist on EP90....because it says so in the 50 year old Manual.....
Your fluid grease sound ideal!

Semi fluid grease sounds like a good compromise or put a few shots of EP90 to make the grease more mobile.

I give ours a shot of grease occasionally, but there are no leaks, so where would the original oil have gone? I suppose over the last 56 years it might have gone off a bit? It's the original rack and gaiters and still passes the MOT without any comment!
Hearing the various comments about current gaiters I don't think I will do a pre-emptive maintenance strike.
