Well I didn't mention the A30!
Re: Another log book and id on Ebay for sale for a minor
well I've delayed posting on this, been there several times.but lets just consider this.................. You are allowed to sell anything you like, except prohibited article such as drugs, guns explosives, alcohol which all require official licence. So long as it belongs to you,its yours to do with as you wish.
If the documents belong to him(The legal situation on vehicle docs has still never been explained ie do the documents always belong to dvla or to the registerd owner ) then he can do whatever he wants with them, sell, burn, pin up on his wall etc. As long as he dosent sell to someone with the intention that the other person uses them to clone a vehicle or any other illegal activity,in which case he would be guilty of conspiracy( Two or more persons conspiring together to commit an illegal act)
It matters not that he thinks or believe someone else might do so ,that falls a long way short of being illegal. Someone might buy just to pin the docs and plate on his garage wall. I have a friend who has several such displays.
Whilst I don't condone this sort of activity, and would never buy this sort of item,I think that the way forwards with it and all the others that will crop up,should be that E>Bay pass the details on to dlva and let them put markers against the numbers so that if they ever come up as a re reg, or application for tax ,transfer etc Then it would flag up and then dvla could investigate further.
One thing for certain is that we shouldn't be accusing this guy , there's nothing to suggest he is doing anything illegal.Probably just drawn the attention of a moderator,re T&C

Might be drugs, explosives, alchohol, guns and the box set of 2005 "Top Gear"
piled up in the cab of what remains of the bodyshell!
NO pic of what people should be bidding on - admittedly I collect id plates -
but I fail to see why anyone would pay £55 for them.
Why would anyone wish to re-shell, why wouldn't that have an id?

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Suppose it depends on what the drugs are.

The attached may be of interest, particularly "what would be the salvage process if applicable"? in the left hand column of the table, where the answer "the damaged body or chassis frame should be destroyed" applies.

The point here is a photograph showing the riveted plates removed from the vehicle.
If the advertiser had not removed said and produced a photo of the remains of the car with the plates then there are fewer grey areas.
Here however the removal of the vin plates puts the seller in a particularly difficult situation if pressed by the law.
It is also a moral question, who will buy the documentation? what checks can the seller make to ensure he does not indirectly become an unwitting accessory?
And for the sake of a few quid is it worth it?

JUST NOTICED. 12 hrs or so to go, and PICTURES OF BODY SHELL NOW IN ADVERT ON EBAY.
Re: Another log book and id on Ebay for sale for a minor
My two pennies worth...
I think the problem here is that the seller was originally selling a car ID without any part of the car (which is I believe against EBay rules and frowned upon by DVLA). As Morris Minor enthusiasts we should all be concerned at the possibility of misuse of such documents, cars ending up without correct matching numbers in future etc. The seller appears to be a Club member and if he had stated in his original advert that it was the remains of a vehicle for 'possible' restoration together with documents and shown a pic of the shell as he now has then whilst he might still have had some adverse comments the full wrath of forum members would not have come upon him!
Taupe

Totally agree with that. But to be fair the seller got far less "on one" than others.

yes, remote chance of the chassis plate
being nicked, but WHY did he/she ALSO remove the body number plate(?), usually ignored
even by seasoned enthusiasts....
Bit odd having new number plates too.

I make it 1245255. The worst digit to identify is the next to last five. The printed chassis number on the V5 show the straight line at the top, which removed the doubt as to whether it might be an 8.
Cheers

Yes - and all of his sales have no mention of any car parts, rotting chassis etc. - These are the ones that the DVLA should take note of - no car to go with plates and V5C.moggyland wrote:Not the only log book he has listed. Look at his other items.
Who is going to give them a call then?

Re: Another log book and id on Ebay for sale for a minor
I've just realised, all the V5's that the "doc & plate only" seller has got are all out-of-date documents - 1 very old pattern and the rest are the BLUE colour ones that were withdrawn and replaced by the RED ones, due to too many forgeries turning up.
