Why choose a Morris Minor

New to the forum!

At the moment I am saving my pennies for my first classic car. A Morris Minor is top of my list followed by Triumph Herald, Ford Anglia 105e and Ford 107e. What makes Morris Minors stand out from the rest?

It is at the top of your list. Anyway at the end of the day it is your money and you are buying your car so buy what ever you feel is best for you. I personally would advise a Morris Minor, (and I am not in any way biased!)

body panels are available for the morris, front and rear wings etc, i doubt they are for the others on your list

Service parts are stupidly cheap and if you are into engine tuning and mods then most Mini bits fit straight on, and you know how tuneable Minis are. it's simple to bolt on a few bits an bobs to turn your Minor into a little hot rod
And to compliment the extra power the price of a litre of SAE 40 oil can transform the handling (do a search for dampers on the forum )

I bought my Traveller (my first car) a few months ago, the main reason was that I've wanted to have one since I was about 8 years old but of course I needed other reasons to justify it. As has already been said, the parts are easily available and cheap (including body panels) so you can easily fix anything. There's a wide support network and lots of mechanics are familiar with working on them. The insurance is cheap and they hold their value well. The engine bay is big and has lots of space to work on the engine. And it seems that almost everyone has had one at some point so you constantly get compliments and comments when you park/get into your car/stop at lights

I realise most of those have already been mentioned, those were my reasons for getting one. But the main reason really was just that I really wanted one. The other reasons are really just absences of reasons not to buy one

A friend and neighbour of mine has a Rolls Royce silver spirit 111 and took me for a spin yesterday, he has just had it MOTd it passed after a shock absorber and 2 brake pipes were replaced.
When you hear the repair bills on these beauties you revel in the fact you chose the "working mans rolls Royce " instead.
Another mate is a mechanic who reminded me some time ago that fixing a Roller was the same hourly rate in his garage as fixing any other car, the difference was Unipart and the rest don't supply Rolls Royce parts, only Rolls do, hence the expense.
12 miles to the gallon seems a little excessive too.
As for the benefits of Minor ownership, apart from it being a babe magnet which may be of interest to the single, ease of repair, reliability, economy, eye catching lines, desirability, ease of parking, tax free motoring, availability of spares, comfort, negative depreciation, I cant think why we own them.

Surely the question is: Why on earth would you NOT choose a Morris Minor? They are reliable, economical, versatile, easy and cheap to maintain; plus all the other good points mentioned by others. There is a great social side (local branches & national events). There are plenty of us who still drive them every day, and others who go concours or custom - room for everyone. You know you want one, so just buy it. It's Smiles per Mile with a Minor.

You have given far too many excellent reasons I AM SOLD! Sadly a purchase wont be immanent due to lack of garage space plus improving my budget should give me more choice.
