Sealing Door Panels

Post by 936cbpminor »

Having spent a good weekend cutting 3mm (3.6mm) exterior ply, punching holes for clips, window winder , handle, sealing it with PVA, applying foam sheet and covering in vinyl, I now ask the question if the door should have a plastic membrane to prevent water or damp coming into contact with the new panel. There does not seem to be any evidence that this was fitted to MY vehicle. I do seem to remember a thread on this subject a while ago but cannot find it. Pictures will follow of the 'new' door cards which are actually 'padding out' better that the original carding.

I did the same as you a few years ago. I bought some heavy duty plastic sheeting from a local garden centre (on roll by metre) and I have sealed this to the door itself with gaffa tape making sure to mark the holes to attach the new door card. It's worked well for me water drains down to bottom of door but door cards have remained undamaged.

No - no condensation as any water drains down through window seals to bottom of door and out through drain holes.
