Re: Indicators on pod
Sorry positive earth. Well spotted.
Re: Indicators on pod
Convert to negative - then you can fit an alternator and so on - you know it makes sense.......

Re: Indicators on pod
Need a flasher unit now as I think I have ruined the old one. So has anyone got a link for a trailer flasher unit for a positive earth van.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Indicators on pod
It would be SO easy to just swap to negative earth.....like 99.9% of all the cars on the road these days........

Re: Indicators on pod
Simple job to convert your van to neg earth then you can run all the modern electrics you wish. The tricky part is sorting out the different colour coding on the trailer and making sure that all the circuits are well earthed. It is great fun sorting the problem when you push the brake pedal and the indicator lights up on one side and the other side brake light goes out

The electronic flasher to which I referred is -ve earth only, so you'll have the same problem. Never occurred to me that anyone prepared to mod the car with a tow bar would not have also changed to negative earth. As Roy has said, it's only a couple of minutes work: Swap the battery terminals, swap the coil terminals, and flash the dynamo. Go on, do it.

Re: Indicators on pod
Well it looks like I need to swap then. So swap battery terminals, coil and flash dynamo.
What do you have to do with coil? And how do you flash a dynamo.
Was working on caravan today and thought about led marker light on the front then thought I can't because poss earth.
Yes life may easier with neg earth.

Re: Indicators on pod
Oh dear.... that's only part of it.... The fuel pump and distributor points must be cleaned and re-set.. the pip and crater on the points will reverse - and if not cleaned and re-set, there will quickly be trouble ahead. Oh and the early (white) fuel gauge will read backwards too. Swap the connections on the back....

Re: Indicators on pod
Thanks will have a go, I still need a new flasher unit anyway, what's the best one to have to incorporate a trailer.
Re: Indicators on pod
Ahhh, I got away with that as I had already done the points in the pump not long before and fitted electronic points to the dizzy just after I changed the polarity, also my fuel gauge is the later type. Good info though thanks.

Well it's negative earth now, 5 min job. Put new flasher on all worked well, pluged caravan in and they worked.
My problem now is the green bulb on stawk doesn't work. If I take bulb out the winners don't work??

Re: Indicators on pod
Disconnect from flasher unit and attach brown/green power cable to light green warning light cable. Column warning bulb should light with ignition on.
Did you connect the oil filter warning light cable to flasher unit? Does the warning light on the speedo flash?

No not connected the oil filter wire just put the unit on. On the flasher unit are the wire 1. Power 2. Wire for bulbs.3. Stawk bulb.
Look this morning and there's no wire to the oil filter.
