Gearbox transplant

Post by Morriemiz »

I am being told that the Austin sprite ribbed gear box will fit straight on to the 1098 giving a much better ratio spread in fact the casing is identical and that the internals are interchangeable. My diff is a 4.2 with standard wheels, bearing in mind the Sprite runs 13 inch wheels giving my ute a bit more leg.

Has any one done this conversion and happy with the result?

Yes it fits - ratios are only very slightly better, frankly nothing to get excited about, and top gear is still 1:1 so no change there. You would need to use the mechanical linkage parts from the Minor ribbed box - the Spridgets had hydraulic mech.
