Re: fuel pump
Make sure there's some petrol in it!
Potentially a blockage in the tank, or (less likely) a fuel pump valve problem.
Try removing the fuel line from the pump (via union on pump) and seeing whether you can blow through it?

Re: fuel pump
can blow through pipe from pump to carb, when i take this pipe off i can feel air being pumped out. Tick on pump is very noisy though. Car definitely had fuel last time i drove it so can't be that - i hope!
Re: fuel pump
This seems to be happening a lot to people lately when their cars come out of hibernation
It was suggested that you try blowing from the tank, take the filler cap off and give it a good lung full while the pump is ticking away. But be careful you don't get any blow-back from the tank when you stop blowing

Re: fuel pump
check fuel pipe unions on pump suction pipe to tank are good and there isn't a leak beetween pump and tank.

Re: fuel pump
Wrap a rag round the fuel filler and blow hard into it while the pump is ticking away...... But you dismiss the 'can't be lack of petrol' too easily - it evaporates...... Put a gallon in......

Re: fuel pump
If the pump is working and has no petrol in it it will blow a very slight stream of air,As above check there is plenty of fuel in tank. If so, check line from pump to tank for breakage, splits etc as i could be drawing air from somewhere.
